DESTINY IN WORDS
by Derrick Namisi Siiya on Wednesday 9th December '09

Once upon in Eden. There lived a man called Adam. On a bright morning, the sun was shinning majestically in His’ majesty’s presence; illuminating the clearing where all living creatures were gathered before Adam.
Beautiful was the sight to behold, a cloudless azure sky, with the wind blowing gently through the tress and the medley of animal voices, a lion roaring, bull bellowing, dog barking…
All these were gathered before Adam for the naming ceremony.
This is when all animals got their names, each according to its kind.

From the beginning as it can be seen above, names have had an imperative role in the life creatures.
Names define, describe and also determine the nature of someone. Let’s look at it first from the perspective of history.
The name Moses means drawn from water. However, I shall exclude the water definition. To remain with, ’drawn out of’ .
Moses when he grew, drew the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt, later on when he angered God; he was drawn from the Israelites to go and die, where no one knows.
This is no coincidence that some of the major phases of his life conformed with his name.

Great soul: this is the meaning of the name Gandhi.
A more worthy, humble, compassionate soul of his time I have never seen other than him. Mahatma Karamachand Gandhi.

Centuries ago, when the world, more so Europe in particular was under the oppression and monopoly of the catholic church.
Martin Luther rose up to protest and give rise to a religious movement called Protestant.
No wonder when a civil rights activist was born under the names of Martin Luther King.
He was destined to campaign and deliver the oppressed African American from racism and other injustices through his slogan of “I HAVE A DREAM”.

Myth has it that a certain Slavic nobleman was named Dracula.
The literal meaning being, ‘son of the devil’. And indeed Dracula became the mortal devil roaming the earth. Biting and killing people to form his army of vampires.

The presidency of the U.S, is a position every powerful, virtuous and famous American man and woman wishes for. Many worthy, contest for but few attain it.
When an African American, Barack Obama ran for it as we well know in 2008.
‘Barack’, in Swahili means blessing. I dare say that his name played an important invisible role in his succeeding.
So, he was blessed to attain and has became a blessing to America. At the end of his reign, we may see him having blessed the world.

Now that we have seen the destiny aspect of names.
Its’ important that we chose our names properly but more importantly our children’s’ as some of us may find it impossible redesigning the surnames given to us at baptism.
The history of a name means a lot. So it important that it is considered before using it.

To my own view point, naming and destiny do dot have any close relations at all. I discovered that, parents name their kids basing on social, economic and political experiences they encountered in the past even when the child was not born. The name given is in most cases meant to correct some of the undesirable past experiences, appreciate events that occurred or to confess some wrongs committed in the past. Destinies that correspond with names are just coincidences. Mawa Augustine Atmawick.

I actually dont think destiny is meant to depend on the naming only, if we intend to find out, there are other people with names that really dont reflect the actions they potray. for instance "mafabi" a honourable member of parliament, in luganda mafabi refers to a person who acts like he is insane, the hon. is actually doing good by pining the peiple who mishandled the chogm funds. Get real and try to create a balance while writing catchy articles like these. thanx 4 de article
